Connection to Local Business

Real Life:  Real Jobs

As Employment Development Co-Ordinator, my role is to facilitate the development of and sustain supported employment opportunities for the people supported by Partners for Inclusion.

Developing and nurturing, good working relationships with employers in the local communities helps raise awareness, educate and improve employers attitudes, and builds a good database of employer contacts offering real suitable jobs with opportunities for advancement.   As well as establishing relationships to understand, support and assist employers to examine their workplace and to be creative in how they may participate in developing employment opportunities.

Linda Graham,

Employment Development Coordinator

It is really important to match the right job with the right person.  By working closely with the individuals who wishes to find work, their family, friends and their support teams, it enables us to build a vocational profile of skills, supports, training, and employment goals and also build a picture of their likes and dislikes, their hobbies, pastimes and their interests.

People with disabilities/and or mental health issues are poorly represented in the labour market and by conveying a positive attitude within communities, where going to work, for these individuals, will be seen as a natural step just like everyone else.  We expect that the work we do will provide a tailor-made and personalised service for those we support who are looking for employment and that the transition into employment will simple and straightforward.

Partners for Inclusion is an organisation designed to provide high quality support to individuals with Learning and/or Mental Health difficulties, We pride ourselves on being fully committed to providing services that are truly person centred and tailored to meet the specific needs and wishes of each person supported. An independent evaluation that we have carried out stated “It is visionary, knowledgeable, thoughtful, unique of its own kind, designed and structured, to suit the people it supports acquire a life and lifestyle of their own choosing.”

Ultimately we are striving to support people, who have previously been excluded, to take up their rightful role as full citizens, with the same rights and responsibilities as any other person. Helping people get jobs is one way in which this aim will be achieved.

This DVD highlights how working alongside employers, being creative and carving out job opportunities has benefitted both the individual both the individual looking for work and the organisation.
